Polls suggest Sunday's presidential runoff election in Chile will be an extremely close contest.
José Antonio Kast, an ultra-conservative, is in a virtual tie with leftist candidate Gabriel Boric, according to the latest survey conducted by AtlasIntel. This is a change from many polls, including those from Cadem, that had found a wider gap between the two candidates.
Kast, 55, is a free-market conservative and former congressman who has made public security a key campaign issue.
Meanwhile, Boric, just 35 years old, is a leftist lawmaker and ex-student leader who is known for pushing for education reform and changes to economic inequality.
What many critics of Boric fear is that if he is victorious, Chile could be on the same path as Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
