These are dark, embarrassing, weak, inflationary and deconstructive times in America. Under the Biden-Harris domestic and international debacle, we 100,000,000 pro-Trump conservatives wait with bated breath for a return to sanity in 2022 and 2024. Hopefully, this takes place with a free uncontaminated voting system.
Our beloved country has quickly gone from winning and leading to being a hyper-accommodationist culturally Marxist wreck.
The news is daunting as biological men win women’s sports events. January 6th prosecutions, run by corrupt Democrats, have wildly turned to accusations of being racially motivated. Ukraine suffers from global inaction as a reluctant America is weakened by graft and incompetent leadership.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden declared that, “No amendment to the Constitution is absolute” as he rolled out infringing gun measures. He created rampant 7.9% annualized inflation and sent the Consumer Price Index up a whopping 7.9% over the past year — “the largest 12-month increase since the period ending July 1981.”
Americans are awakening to the highest fuel prices in 40 years, with rumblings of food shortages to come.
Meanwhile, Americans are still trying to make sense of the bungled Afghanistan withdrawal that caused the deaths of 13 American soldiers. Biden and Harris mumble and ramble incoherently as our own media spins past Hunter Biden’s laptop once again.
My home city of Los Angeles is spiraling and, as result, we also now live in Texas. Violent crime has soared. Gas prices topped seven bucks.
Comrade-fornia announced a 15-month extension of its eviction moratorium, destroying real estate owners and passing on higher rents to its tenant citizens.
Even hyper-leftist Saturday Night Live has had to surrender to attacking the obvious with Biden’s incessant socialistic ineptitude. SNL mocked his asking Tik Tok stars for help spreading his propaganda message.
We conservatives lament our once-muscular Trumpian America decimated by progressives touting a post-COVID, post-MAGA, post-America world.
All is not well on the right either. Many of our money-drunk, career-centered Republican turncoats jumped on the “new normal” bandwagon.
We have been here before, but the stakes are higher now. Our growing government Leviathan of government funds nearly everything in the printed paper trillions.
Is there hope? Always.
As we await the 2022 and 2024 elections, we thinking men and women of the right must not get lost in the despondent or negative weeds.
Liberals will never stop trying to stomp on all that is good, true and American. We have the intelligent conservative minds to turn to for comfort and timeless successful advice.
Myriads of great minds have encapsulated what is excellent in Conservatism, Individual Liberty and America. Much like our Constitution, it is within these great words that we may always find warm shelter until any storm passes.
Russell Kirk’s Six Canons of Conservatism was redacted and summarized first by Jonah Goldberg and then by myself. I suggest you print my version and place it by your favorite chair. It should be tucked by your morning Bible inspiration.
Read it several times. Meditate and remember that all is well. There shall always be higher order. That order remains on our side regardless of who holds office. These six tenets are as follows:
- We believe in a transcendent order or body of natural law (God, to many Americans) which rules society as well as conscience. True politics is the art of apprehending and applying the justice which ought to prevail in a community of souls.
- We have an affection for the proliferating variety and mystery of human existence, as opposed to the narrowing uniformity, egalitarianism, and utilitarian aims of most radical systems. Conservatives resist what Robert Graves calls “logicalism” in society. Synonyms for logicalism are the new normal and globalism.
- We have a conviction that civilized society requires orders and classes, countering the notion of a “classless society.” With reason, conservatives have been called “the party of order.” If natural distinctions are effaced among men, oligarchs fill the vacuum.
- We believe that freedom and property are closely linked: Separating property from private possession renders Leviathan the master of all. Proposed “economic leveling,” is anathema to economic progress.
- We have faith in prescription and “distrust” of “sophisters, calculators, and economists” who would reconstruct society upon abstract designs. Custom, convention, and old prescriptions are checks BOTH upon man’s anarchic impulse and the innovator’s lust for power.
- We recognize that change may not be salutary reform. Hasty innovation may be a devouring conflagration rather than a torch of progress. Society must alter, for prudent change is the means of social preservation. Yet a statesman must take “Providence” into his calculations. A statesman’s chief virtue, according to Plato and Burke, is “prudence.”
These six canons remind us what is good and true, regardless of man’s politics and the day. With a clear head, we can then head back into the world to ensure that every word, thought, and deed in our individual lives bolsters and defends these principles.
That’s the Conservative Life. Onward and upward, no matter what. We people of the right always take the high road in all matters.
