Hours after the collapse of the American Health Care Act in the Senate Monday night , the White House signaled on Tuesday that it was open to working with lawmakers in both the House and Senate for direct repeal of the Affordable Care Act (the official name of Obamacare.)
During the regular briefing for White House reporters Tuesday, Newsmax noted that there was strong sentiment among House Republicans for a simple repeal even before the AHCA collapsed Monday night and that Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) had introduced a bill for direct repeal of Obamacare.
Would the administration join the movement for direct repeal, we asked, before pursuing of any new kind of legislation?
"I think we're certainly open to having conversations on all fronts and the best way to move this process forward," Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told Newsmax.
Sanders was subsequently asked if the president would be willing to sign a "repeal-only" bill if it ended up on his desk.
"You know," she replied, "I don't have any announcement to make on specifics that hasn't hit his desk, but I think right now we're certainly open to considering all options to reform healthcare and make sure that Americans get the best care possible."
