In what is fast-becoming one of the most closely-watched U.S. House races in the Northeast, Republican Nicole Malliotakis took the lead over Democrat Rep. Max Rose in the latest poll of New York’s 11th District (Staten Island).
According to the NBC 4 New York Marist Poll, State Assemblywoman Malliotakis leads one-termer Rose by 48 to 46 percent among likely voters districtwide.
Over the weekend, an agitated Rose was caught on tape cursing out a Shop Rite customer while campaigning outside the store.
“I thought you were f------ out of your mind anyway,” he snapped.
The clip has been widely rebroadcast and re-cycled on social media.
The campaign between Malliotakis (who also carries the “Row C” line of the New York Conservative Party) and Rose has focused on law and order. The challenger has been endorsed by several local and national police organizations and appeared at rallies supporting the New York Police Department. Rose has appeared at rallies and marches for “Black Lives Matter” and “Defund the Police.”
The 11th District (which includes a small portion of Brooklyn) has been in Republican hands for all but four of the last 40 years.
