On Monday, State Department officials condemned the apparent murder of Konstantin Sinitsyn. A well-known leader of protests against corruption in the Kremlin, Sinitsyn, 53, was found dead of head injuries outside his St. Petersburg apartment.
Although news of Sinitsyn’s death became public on Feb. 2, the activist was apparently killed on Jan. 26. Police told the press they believe the motive was robbery.
“We are saddened and troubled by the violent death of prominent opposition activist Konstantin Sinitsyn in St. Petersburg,” a State Department official told Newsmax. “His death wounds everyone who yearns for a more open, democratic, and transparent Russia. We call on the authorities to conduct a full, independent investigation and to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
