A group of Trump supporters disrupted a speech by Sadiq Khan in London on Saturday, attempting to conduct a “citizen’s arrest” of the city’s first Muslim mayor after accusing him of treachery, tyranny and disrespecting the U.S. president, the Guardian reports.
In a video posted on Twitter, one man tells the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're here today to make a non-violent, peaceful citizen's arrest."
At least half a dozen men were eventually escorted out by police officers, but delayed Khan’s speech on gender equality at the left-wing Fabian Society by at least 15 minutes.
The protestors, who held American flags and towed a wooden frame with a noose onto a street outside the auditorium in central London, were led by a man named Davey Russell who told reporters the men were members of the White Pendragons. But ITV identified Russell as a leading member of the far-right English Defense League, according to The Washington Post.
“He should keep his nose out of state affairs and look out for what’s going on in London,” Russell said of Khan.
The protest comes the same week Trump abruptly canceled his plans to visit London. Khan, along with many other Britons, welcomed the news.
