WH Hopes Budget Plays Better in Peoria

President Barack Obama’s budget proposal has taken a lot of flak in Washington, DC. But the White House hopes it will fare better on the nation’s hustings than it has in the capital, The Hill reports. If the administration is wrong, this could represent a major snafu in the president’s re-election campaign.

Obama displeased both sides in Washington for failing to address entitlements – Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid – along with other major issues. But as the White House sees it, voters around the country will give the president credit for cutting some of his favorite programs in the name of fiscal austerity.

The White House hopes to force a divided Republican contingent in Congress to propose unpopular cutbacks in government programs and then to defend the moves.
