Thursday, 26 November 2009 05:06 AM EST

WASHINGTON -- The first family is spending the long holiday weekend in Washington.

President Barack Obama has no scheduled events.

On Friday, first lady Michelle Obama will accept the Official White House Christmas Tree -- an 18 1/2-foot Douglas fir from Shepherdstown, W.Va. It will arrive at the North Portico on the traditional horse-drawn carriage.

The tree will be on display in the Blue Room throughout the holiday season.
