Pelosi Says Lawmakers 'Very Close' On Health Care

Wednesday, 06 January 2010 04:42 PM EST

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says lawmakers are "very close" to resolving differences between the House and Senate health care bills and sending a final version to President Barack Obama.

Pelosi spoke at the White House after a meeting Wednesday with President Barack Obama and the chairmen of several House committees that have had a hand in shaping the House version of the bill.

Differences remain, including over abortion and whether to create a public option for health insurance.

Pelosi, however, said both bills had the makings for great legislation.
