Dayton Team Claims Bigger gain in Minn. Recount

Tuesday, 30 November 2010 11:39 AM EST

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Democrat Mark Dayton's recount team says he picked up 177 votes Monday, building his lead over Republican Tom Emmer to nearly 9,000 votes.

The Dayton team released their figures Tuesday.

They show a bigger net gain for Dayton than official figures from the secretary of state's office.

Dayton spokeswoman Denise Cardinal says that's because they got results from the field after the secretary of state's reporting deadline.

They also tallied challenged ballots based on the call of election judges at the recount tables, where observers for Republican Tom Emmer made most of the challenges.
