McCain Hires New Campaign Manager After Shake-Up

Friday, 21 May 2010 07:16 PM EDT

Arizona Sen. John McCain has hired his former Senate chief of staff to be the new manager of his campaign.

The campaign announced Friday that Mark Buse would take over its top job.

McCain shook up his campaign last week, moving two senior operatives to an outside fundraising committee. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers says neither was fired.

McCain is facing the toughest re-election battle of his Senate career and fending off a GOP primary challenge from former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

Buse is an Arizona native who first worked for McCain as an intern in the 1980s when McCain was in the U.S. House.
