Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he wants to find $100 billion in savings in the military's budget in the next several years.
Gates announced on Monday that he has put his acquisition chief, Ashton Carter, in charge of hunting for savings in the budget from 2012 to 2016.
Gates said it is "a matter of principle and political reality to make sure every taxpayer dollar counts."
