Entertainment and real estate mogul Donald Trump told the “Fox and Friends” crew this morning that the class-oriented rhetoric that President Barack Obama has adopted in his re-election bid has “totally divided the country,” and is directly responsible for sparking the Occupy Wall Street protests.
Officials have probably been a little too indulgent with the protesters, who oppose greed on Wall Street but otherwise do not appear to have a clear agenda, in allowing the protests to drag on, Trump said.
But he said that he agrees major changes are needed to fix the U.S. economy.
“Change has to be made,” Trump said. “Not Obama’s kind of change. Real change. Obama’s kind of change was just words. Everything about him is words, it’s all nonsense.”
“Fox and Friends” co-host Gretchen Carlson replied: “Well speaking of words, Donald, do you think the president’s rhetoric, speaking about the group of millionaires and billionaires over and over again, almost vilifying them, do you think it has anything to do with these protests sparking up?”
Trump’s response: “I think it has total to do. And I think the protesters should be down at the White House protesting, because he’s doing a terrible job on the economy, he’s doing a terrible job on jobs . . . and this guy has never done a deal in his life except with his house, which wasn’t a very appropriate deal.
“So, you know, this is the problem. It is class warfare. And that’s probably the only way he thinks he can get elected, because he’s done a lousy job as president . . . it’s totally dividing the country.”
Trump also confirmed that he will join Minnesota GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann in a telephone town-hall conference at 8 p.m. Eastern time today to answer voters’ questions, although he said it is not an endorsement.
