Capitol Hill politicians beat out the nation’s brightest journalists in a heated trivia contest on all things political, ABC News reports.
Two teams of journalists –– which included heavy hitters from both print and broadcast media outlets –– lost to Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pa.; Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Ill.; and former Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., Thursday night to win The Hotline's Political Pursuit event.
“The score was so close we may appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court for a recount,” ABC News' senior congressional correspondent Jon Karl tells The Hill about the contest sponsored by Atlantic Media’s Hotline.
Questions included such obscure references as to the year current Ill. Sen. Roland Burris lost the Democratic Senate nomination to Paul Simon (1984), and where President George H.W. Bush's favorite Chinese restaurant (Peking Gourmet Inn) is located.
Competing for the broadcast team of journalist were CNN's Dana Bash, NBC's Chuck Todd, ABC's Jonathan Karl, and Fox News Channel's Molly Henneberg. From the print team were Bloomberg's Al Hunt, the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza, the Washington Times' Christina Bellantoni, and the Wall Street Journal's Ann Davis.
Lawmakers reportedly trailed from the start of the contest, but managed to overcome a 10-point deficit at the end to win the event.
Victory went to the pols when the assembled journalists failed to to answer the contest’s last question, referencing a Chinese restaurant in Davis’ old 11th district.
