Democrats Split Over Bush Tax Cuts

Monday, 13 September 2010 12:30 PM EDT

Some Democrats are starting to support the idea of extending Bush-era tax cuts for everyone, rejecting President Obama’s proposal to include only those with income of less than $200,000, according to Politico reports.

Tax-cuts, Pelosi, Democrats, wealthyThis comes as House Minority Leader John Boehner said he would reluctantly accept leaving out the wealthy to ensure that the middle class keeps its reduced rates.

Democrats in traditionally Republican districts are urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to continue the tax breaks for everyone.

Politico obtained a draft of a letter from House representatives to Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer saying the wealthy shouldn’t be excluded from a continuation of tax cuts.

"We believe in times of economic recovery it makes good sense to maintain things as they are in the short term, to provide families and businesses the certainty required to plan and make sound budget decisions," the letter says.
