The controversial Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele may be seeking a second term – or at least that’s the fear of GOP lawmakers, according to
Congressional Quarterly. What’s stirred this speculation is a series of trips that Steele has made to far territories like Puerto Rico and Guam in what looks like a bid to shore up support for a second term. Some fear he may also take credit for what looks like a GOP takeover of the House and possibly the Senate this year.

Steele has been controversial since he assumed the post. He has insulted figures like Rush Limbaugh and has suggested that elements in the GOP are racist. Moreover, he has sought lucrative book deals that have alienated senior members because he didn’t inform them of his moves.
