Director Guy Ritchie is filming a new Sherlock Holmes tale with a twist — the detective and his sidekick Dr. Watson have a gay relationship.
Robert Downey Jr., who plays Holmes, says his character will sleep with Watson, played by Jude Law, in "Sherlock Holmes," according to the New York Post's Page Six column.
"We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot and share a bed," Downey told Britain's News of the World.
But former Post movie critic Michael Medved doesn't think much of the new offering from Ritchie, Madonna's former husband.
"There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals," he told Page Six.
"They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it."
In Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories, Holmes is a bachelor but Watson is married.
Ritchie's film is scheduled for release in December.
