House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., isn’t finding any Democrats willing to co-sponsor her United Nations Reform bill. And she thinks she knows the reason why – the White House is telling Democrats to withhold their support, she maintains, according to
The Hill.
The bill would eliminate U.S. financial support for the U.N. unless it guarantees that at least 80 percent of its programs are paid for with voluntary donations.
"We have no Democrat co-sponsors, and as far as I have heard, . . . they have been asked to stay away from the bill," Ros-Lehtinen told The Hill. "And of course, if you ask administration officials, they will tell you, 'Of course we don't do that.' "
She sees the bill as a warning to the UN for allowing human rights violators such as China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and others to control the Human Rights Council.
