The real estate agent describes it as “perfect for a growing family,” but the five-bedroom home in a Washington, D.C., suburb was once the perfect base for a double agent who betrayed the United States.

USA Today reports.
Hanssen, an FBI agent was arrested in February 2001 and charged with selling secrets to the Soviet Union and then Russia for $1.4 million in cash and diamonds over more than two decades. He pleaded guilty to espionage and is serving a life prison term.
A Justice Department report described Hanssen’s betrayal as "possibly the worst intelligence disaster in U.S. history."
Two Russians working for the U.S. government were executed because of information Hanssen sold to Moscow, government prosecutors said.
“He was probably the single most damaging spy we’ve ever had in this country,” Peter Earnest, executive director of the International Spy Museum in Washington, told the newspaper.
Real estate agent Patrick Kilner, with Llewellyn Realtors, said the listing did not mention Hanssen’s association with the house because “it’s not a salient issue.”
The most recent owner listed of the home was Hanssen’s wife, who was not implicated in his crimes.
