Redistricting Could Doom Dems Levin or Dingell

Thursday, 23 December 2010 11:56 AM EST

With Republicans having seized control of many stage legislatures and governors’ mansions in last month’s elections, many Democratic congressmen may find their seats in jeopardy from re-districting moves. Veteran Michigan Reps. Sander Levin and John Dingell Redistricting, michigan, Levin, Dingell[pictured] are two of them, The Hill reports.

The state has to drop a seat in light of its population loss in the latest Census Bureau survey, and that could mean trouble for one of them. "Redistricting will be a test of whether the Republicans are capable of bipartisanship and fairness," Levin tells The Hill. "Republicans are talking about [working in a bipartisan way], so we'll see."

Democratic Rep. Gary Peters also could be the one to suffer. “The most advantageous scenario for Republicans would be the merging of two Democratic districts, which would pit two incumbents against one another in 2012,” The Hill states.
