Poll: Romney Leads GOP Presidential Contenders

A new Gallup poll shows former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in front of the other main potential contenders for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. The poll puts his support among Republicans at 19 percent, The Hill reports.

Presidential candidates, Romney, Palin, HuckabeeFormer Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin came in second at 16 percent, followed by 12 percent for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Next came former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 9 percent and Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, at 7 percent.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour each drew 3 percent support.

Romney will no doubt take heart in the fact that he led the field among both conservative and moderate Republican voters.
