North Korea will continue to cause problems for the United States because the Obama administration isn’t willing to put enough pressure on China to moderate the rogue nation’s behavior, says Richard Perle, a key architect of President Ronald Reagan’s strategy to end the Cold War.
“Trouble is a chronic situation with North Korea,” Perle, now a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, tells Newsmax.TV. “Not only is it a threat against South Korea, but North Korea is emerging as a supplier of weapons of mass destruction and delivery systems to anyone who has the cash to pay for them.”
The United States has tolerated North Korea’s outrageous behavior for too long, Perle says. “China could do something about it,” he maintains. “Our task is to make our views so emphatic that China will respond. I believe we could do that, but we haven’t. The Obama administration has been unwilling to deliver the necessary ultimatum to China.”
