Columnist Threatened Over Calls for Palin to Quit

By    |   Wednesday, 01 October 2008 04:50 PM EDT

A conservative columnist who suggested that Sarah Palin should resign the Republican ticket because of her poor media performance is receiving some of the worst threats of her journalism career.

Syndicated columnnist Kathleen Parker said the angry emails and letters she is receiving is of a “different order” altogether — “not just angry, but vicious and threatening.”

Parker, who was among the first conservatives who questioned Palin’s experience, generated news stories last week when she suggested Palin should resign. Writing in the National Review Online, Parker last week said that her "cringe reflex is exhausted" after watching the Alaska governor stumble through TV interviews.

On Wednesday, Parker said she was being accused of betraying the Republican Party by abandoning her support of Palin.

“Palin's fans say they like her specifically because she's an outsider, not part of the Washington club,” Parker wrote. “When she flubs during interviews, they identify with that too. ‘You see the lack of polish, we applaud it,’ one reader wrote.

“Of course, there's a difference between a lack of polish and a lack of coherence.”
