Voting Supervisors Are Obama Donors

By    |   Monday, 27 October 2008 10:29 AM EDT

Justice Department attorneys charged with supervising voting issues and probing potential voter fraud are avowed Barack Obama supporters and have contributed to the Democrat’s presidential campaign.

According to Federal Election Commission data seen by the Wall Street Journal, James Walsh, an attorney in the Civil Rights Division, has contributed at least $300 to Obama. His boss Mark Kappelhoff has donated $2,250, and John Russ, also in Civil Rights, has donated at least $600.

“Prosecutors who are supposed to guard against voter fraud don’t seem very interested in running the political risk of doing their job,” the Journal states in an editorial on Monday headlined “Justice and Vote Fraud.”

The inaction is especially glaring in light of the fact that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACORN) has been caught filing thousands of bogus voter registrations in more than a dozen states, and ACORN’s “history of deceit and the national sweep of today’s scandal demand a federal probe,” according to the Journal.

In Ohio alone, as many as 200,000 new voter registrations are suspect. But Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, is refusing to follow requirements that she verify those registrations.

The Justice Department can take action, but has so far done nothing, with the “excuse” that it isn’t appropriate to file litigation so close to Election Day, the Journal reports.

But that hasn’t prevented the Civil Rights Division from filing a suit this month against Waller County, Tex., to deal with alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act, and taking other actions to protect voter access to the polls.

The Journal concludes: “Voter access does need to be protected, but Democrats are using that principle as a political weapon, suggesting that any serious look at fraud is intended to ‘disenfranchise’ voters. This is a naked attempt to protect their friends at ACORN.”
