Mitt Romney has quietly assembled a loyal cadre of supporters in Iowa, the location of the first voting in the GOP presidential nominating process Jan. 3.
Current polling puts Romney in third place behind businessman Herman Cain and Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
However, the Iowa State University/Gazette/KCRG poll showed 8 percent were undecided and Dave Peterson, director of the Harkin Institute of Public Policy at ISU who worked on the poll, said the race remains fluid.
"When people are asked if they made up their mind yet, more than half volunteered that they haven't decided," Peterson said according to the Tribune-Review. "Another 30 percent admit that the person they prefer right now is only a weak preference."
Romney`s team Iowa has fanned out to attend church suppers, town halls and covered-dish dinners, reminding voters of this strengths. Matt Strawn, Iowa GOP chairman, told the Tribune-Review that he believed Romney built goodwill among voters during his unsuccessful bid for the nomination in 2008.
