Savage Was Targeted for British Ban

British government e-mails reveal that American radio host Michael Savage was targeted for placement on a list of foreigners barred from entering the country as a way to provide "balance" to the Muslim-heavy list.

According to the Daily Mail newspaper, British officials predicted that Savage's outspoken views on gays would encourage public support for his inclusion on the list, but acknowledged that their actions could be seen as "duplicitous."

Savage was one of 16 people placed in the list in May, along with former a Ku Klux Klan leader, a skinhead gang leader and a member of Hezbollah. They were accused of "stirring up hatred and promoting extremist views."

That prompted him to file a libel lawsuit against then-Home Secretary Jacqui Smith for more than $100,000.
