Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says now is not the time to discuss U.S. nuclear power policy, as Japan struggles to avert a meltdown following the Asian nation’s devastating tsunami and earthquake.

“I think what we ought to do right now is concentrate on trying to help our Japanese friends after this disaster. I don’t think right after a major environmental catastrophe is a very good time to be making American domestic policy," McConnell said on Fox News Sunday.
“My thought is we ought not to make American domestic policy based on an event that happened in Japan,” said McConnell, one of the Senate's more vocal supporters of nuclear power as part of any comprehensive energy bill.
