Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich are way ahead of the pack in the GOP presidential sweepstakes. The four out poll by nearly 30 points other contenders in a survey of Republican and Republican leaning voters, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll showed.
When asked whether they had a favorable or unfavorable impression of the potential candidates, former Arkansas Gov.
Huckabee scored a favorable rating of 61 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. Romney was at 60 percent, former Alaska Gov. Palin at 58 percent, and former House Speaker Gingrich at 55 percent, The Washington Post reported.
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was at 28 percent, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour at 26 percent, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels at 22 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 20 percent. Large numbers of those polled, ranging from 58 percent to 68 percent, had no opinion of the lower four, suggesting they remain unknown to much of the Republican electorate, the Post said.
The poll showed that Palin’s favorability rating has continued to decline among GOP and GOP-leaning voters, from 88 percent just after the 2008 Republican National Convention, 70 percent in October and 58 percent now. Her unfavorability rating also reached a new high in the poll with 37 percent now holding a negative view of her, the Post said.
