Huckabee Tied in Iowa

By    |   Friday, 16 November 2007 01:37 PM EST

Mike Huckabee has pulled into a virtual dead heat with Mitt Romney in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in early caucus state Iowa, the latest poll reveals.

An American Research Group survey of likely Republican caucus goers has Romney at 26 percent of the vote and Huckabee at 24 percent. The margin of error is 4 percent.

Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson lag behind with 11 percent, and John McCain has 10 percent.

But among “registered Republicans saying they will definitely participate in the Republican caucuses” on Jan. 3, Huckabee actually has a lead over Romney, 24 percent to 23 percent.

Noting that Romney has expended far more resources in Iowa than Huckabee, pollster Dick Bennett said that for the money he’s spent, Romney “should be the front-runner, with numbers in the low to mid 40s.”
