Former Sen. George Allen, R-Va.,
(pictured) may be positioning for a comeback run against foe Jim Webb, D-Va. Allen persists as one of the state's most popular Republicans -- with a recent poll tapping him as the strong favorite among Republicans in the old Dominion, according to
The Hill.

Meanwhile, Webb spokesman Will Jenkins issued a statement declaring that his boss, "will address his intentions regarding the 2012 election cycle after giving the matter proper thought and consideration."
But the wait-and-see stategy is not good enough for Webb supporters, who think that the ambivalent former Marine should get serious about 2012 immediately.
"If Webb doesn't get off his butt and start acting like he wants the job, we're in trouble," said an anonymous strategist. "He's probably our best bet, but he isn't doing anything he needs to do."
