U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is headed to Boston to announce his decision on the fate of what would be the nation's first offshore wind farm, off of Cape Cod.
Salazar's office says it will make an announcement at noon Wednesday. Gov. Deval Patrick's office has confirmed that he plans to join Salazar at the news conference.
Patrick's presence bodes well for Cape Wind advocates, as he has supported the project. The announcement also comes as President Barack Obama travels the Midwest for two days to talk about his economic and clean energy programs as job creators.
Developers say proposed 130-turbine wind farm would reduce reliance on foreign energy sources and provide jobs. Opponents say it would damage the habitat and the area's historic significance.
