Koch: Vote GOP in Weiner Election

Tuesday, 12 July 2011 07:59 AM EDT

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, is urging voters Ed Koch, Israel, Anthony Weinerto cast their ballots for the Republican candidate in the special election to fill former Rep. Anthony Weiner's seat, the New York Post reports.

"If Jewish New Yorkers and others who support Israel were to turn away from the Democratic Party in that congressional election and elect the Republican candidate to Congress in 2011, it might very well cause President Obama to change his hostile position on the state of Israel and to re-establish the special relationship presidents before him had supported," Koch said.

The special election will be held Sept. 13, and Koch said he wanted to "put a shot across President Obama's bow" because he's unhappy with the administration's policy toward Israel.
