Emanuel Testifies in Chicago Residency Hearing

Tuesday, 14 December 2010 11:43 AM EST

CHICAGO (AP) — Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is testifying in the dispute over whether he's eligible to run for mayor of Chicago.

A Chicago Board of Election Commissioners hearing officer is listening to evidence about whether Emanuel should be on the Feb. 22 ballot.

Emanuel took the stand Tuesday to defend himself against more than two dozen objectors who say he shouldn't be able to run. Opponents say he isn't eligible because he lived in Washington for nearly two years while working for President Barack Obama.

Emanuel's attorneys dismiss challenges to his residency, saying he owns a home, pays property taxes and votes in Chicago.
