Whitman, Brown Cancel California Debate

California gubernatorial nominees Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown have pulled out of a debate planned for Tuesday. Whitman, a Republican, and Brown, a Democrat, were scheduled to debate on San Francisco's KGO-AM radio station, reports Politico. The two had clashed Saturday during a debate in which Brown attacked Whitman for having employed an illegal immigrant as her housekeeper.

Representatives for both Whitman and Brown refused to reveal why the candidates canceled the debate, but a Brown spokesman told Politico it was by mutual agreement.
