Top Republican officials expect that the party’s attractive candidates in governors’ races will spark a large voter turnout, helping GOP candidates for Congress too,
The Hill reports. With control of Congress in the balance, turnout is a key issue.

“Governors’ races drive turnout,” Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who heads the Republican Governors Association (RGA), told The Hill. “Usually, governors’ races are better funded, and they take a lot of the responsibility in the ground game.”
That’s good news for the GOP considering that 27 states are having both gubernatorial and Senate elections this year. “There is a correlation between electing senators and electing governors,” Barbour said.
