Dangers of Whey Protein

Russell Blaylock, M.D. By Monday, 06 May 2013 09:33 AM EDT Current | Bio | Archive

Question: My husband is being treated for hyperglycemia. Is there a whey protein that's OK to take?

Dr. Blaylock's Answer:

Whey protein has become a nutritional fad — and in my view a dangerous one. Whey protein is high in the excitotoxin glutamate. There are many supplements that lower blood sugar, especially the flavonoids — curcumin, quercetin, luteolin, cinnamon, EGCG (white and green tea extract), and baicalein (skullcap extract).

R-lipoic acid and niacinamide also lower blood sugar, and the latter boosts energy in the brain.
