Question: I have chronic pain in and around my sphenoid sinus, and antibiotics are ineffective. I have tried a gluten-free diet. I eat very little processed food and am on a low-fat diet. What can I do to get to the actual root of the problem?
Dr. Blaylock's Answer:
Chronic sinusitis can have many causes. The gluten-free diet is important, but one should look for other possible food intolerances as well as using comprehensive testing. A thorough examination is important in order to make sure there are no obstructions of the drainage canals.
Environmental allergies can also cause obstructions. Baicalein is a powerful antihistamine, as is butterbur, and can reduce nasal mucosal swelling. In combination, they may make a sufficient difference.
Get a blood vitamin D3 test. Normal values are 75 ng/ml to 100 ng/ml. This may require a dose of 5,000 to 10,000 IU a day of vitamin D3.
