Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:21 PM EST

Singer Annie Ross was among several jazz greats honored by the National Endowment for the Arts at its Jazz Masters Awards.

A ceremony was held Tuesday night for the eight honorees, which included pianist and composer Kenny Barron.

The event was held at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The 79-year-old Ross provided an emotional highlight when she performed her song "Music Is Forever."

Since 1982, the NEA has given its Jazz Masters Award to 114 living legends in jazz. Each of this year's recipients also receives a $25,000 grant.
