Will Hillary Clinton Enter the 2020 Election Late?

There was a news item flash on Tuesday that few Washington insiders believe to be true. It was announced that Hillary Clinton would not seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

Predictably that report was refuted in short order.

Maggie Haberman, one of many New York Times political reporters on social media, claimed Hillary’s actual statement was taken out of context. Her source was reputedly a person “close with Clinton.”

The story is hard to believe. Hillary has spent the last 18 months spewing excuse after excuse for her surprising loss to Donald Trump. Her denunciations border on hysterical, making it hard to believe she is not gearing up for a third run for president.

And why not? With a Democratic field of candidates more crowded than Grand Central Station, Hillary can sit back and watch the fray slug it out until most run out of money and/or qualifying votes to move forward. Then she can step over the carnage and declare her candidacy.

Sound too convoluted? Even though Clinton appeared to bow out of the race earlier this week, she remains highly active on the rubber chicken speech circuit. Her inner-anger appears to be in peak form.

Hillary’s own words, “I’m not running,” could very well mean she is not running now. And why should she? With the kind of money she can gather for a late run, let the rest of the crowded field beat each other to a pulp.

For those who know Hillary best, her statement meant she is not closing the door yet. With the far-left trying to outdo each other for the most outrageous campaign promises, the party may look to a moderate to regain some semblance of sanity by 2020.

That would be the former secretary of state’s shining moment. She has the luxury of waiting to see how the primaries unfold initially.

Meanwhile, she can wait and see what the Mueller Report says, the outcome of the Roger Stone indictment, and the daily hammering of Trump by 90 percent of the news media. Hillary is in the driver’s seat with a win-win situation.

It may seem like a long shot, but if the Democratic House is successful in impeaching Trump, Hillary’s glory days could be ahead. It could be her day in the sun to tell the electorate: You made a mistake in 2016, now fix it.
