Leftist Anti-Semitism of Marx Drove JCC Bomb Threat Suspect

Much to the chagrin of the legions of Trump haters, the anti-Semite who allegedy perpetrated at least eight of the recent spate of bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers turns out to have been a leftist, an activist who sports a tattoo of Malcolm X. Juan Thompson’s Twitter profile includes a Malcolm X quote: "You show me a capitalist, I’ll show you a bloodsucker."

While anti-Semitism is itself an extremely complex subject, this event ought to serve as an educational opportunity to study the left-wing variant. After all, if the shoe were on the other foot, if Juan Thompson was a white male Trump supporter committing these crimes we would never have heard the end of it.

Karl Marx gave birth to modern leftist anti-Semitism with his infamous pamphlet "On the Jewish Question," published in 1843. This anti-Semitic tract, which would inform and inspire a young Austrian bohemian artist and street urchin by the name of Adolf Hitler, was re-published under the title "A World Without Jews." Marx gave a scientific veneer to already existing conspiracy theories about Jews which had the effect of making anti-Semitism acceptable and even fashionable in progressive circles.

Marx wrote: What is the secular basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money.

The pamphlet begins with Marx railing against Judaism as a religion that fosters separation which he viewed as an obstacle to his collectivist premise. He then condemns practical need and self-interest which he viewed as traits invented by Judaism. This is his attack on the self-interested individual who would be resistant to the self-sacrifice required for collectivism. His claim that Judaism advocates Huckstering is a condemnation of the free trade of goods and services as well as ideas which is natural to the transactions of free men and free societies. His claim that Judaism worships money is an attack on the institution of private property as money represents an abstract form of property and as a means of exchange.

Marx believed that by abolishing Judaism, or by making Judaism impossible as he praised it, individuals and societies would forget these ideas, which he considered to be false consciousness, and that society would thus progress, as he defined progress, toward the ultimate utopian society of the one world ant colony, In a nutshell, Marx hated Judaism because he believed, and rightfully, that Judaism fostered individual identity and accomplishment through education, family, and through worship of an immutable God that could not be manipulated by the corrupting hand of man.

Marx felt that Judaism, by spreading these ideas, which he labeled as false, had corrupted Christianity, and the United States. Indeed, Christianity and America had embraced to a high degree ideas which Marx condemned as Jewish because they are universal and true. Marx sought to annihilate that which was true to build his false utopia. In a style that represents classic leftism to this day, Marx projected these ideas onto Judaism to make his case that these ideas were unnatural or artificial.

The Malcolm X quote, "You show me a capitalist, I’ll show you a bloodsucker," found on Juan Thompson’s Twitter profile, contains the Marxist conspiracy theory that provides the foundation for the entire Marxist edifice. The entire house of Marxism is built on this premise which is that the capitalist, the person who owns and accumulates capital, has done so by exploiting those who own or accumulate less capital than him. He has invented such things as self-interest, huckstering, or the right to trade, money, faith, family, and any institution that fosters individuality, as part of a conspiracy to exploit. Marx viewed religion itself, belief in God, as a form of false consciousness created by exploiters which is what he meant when he wrote that religion is the opiate of the masses.

Marx blamed the creation of these ideas on Judaism and he believed that by annihilating Judaism these ideas would wither away, to use his phrase, and that mankind would finally enter the last stage of progress, the one world bee hive. His letters and columns also indicate that he hated Jews because in his mind Jews embodied everything that he was not, self-made people who lifted themselves up from their bootstraps often in the face of adversity and hardship.

Today, Marx's brand of anti-Semitism has infected the thinking of many people on both the left and the right, not to mention that of many Muslims. Echoes of this brand of anti-Semitism can be heard in those who rail against corporate interests or the “millionaires and billionaires.”

Indeed, this form of anti-Semitism might be an animating factor in this irrational and visceral hatred that many people hold toward Donald Trump even though Trump is not Jewish.
