"Brilliance without prayer is like a car with four flat tires. It might be a truly fine vehicle, but it isn't going anywhere." –Craig D. Lounsbrough
I believe in the power of prayer.
Many don't. And for those poor souls, I'm sad.
It's not just a difference of opinion. It's an inability to decipher fact on their part.
Many religions pray. Especially the Christians and Jews. In America's Judeo-Christian country, these two major religions have meant so much to so many; it's incalculable.
Those who don't pray are adrift, rudderless and powerless to have any effect whatsoever in their lives.
And people who don't pray are frequently enemies of prayer or religion. They spew hate at those who believe; they mock and diminish our faith; and they'll do anything to eliminate us from the face of the Earth.
It's the reason we had the Colosseum, the lions and the Holocaust.
And it's the reason we have the never-ending persecution of Christians and Jews worldwide today.
I've been a lifelong Episcopalian. And prayer has always worked for me. Perhaps not immediately, as some people think prayer works, but eventually and often in ways very different than I had requested and in ways I could never have imagined.
My own personal experience with prayer is that God never lets me down.
Especially in 2019.
Four years ago, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). My kidneys were failing fast. In order to survive, I had to go on dialysis. This was no picnic … but kept me alive. Over the long term, the only thing that would allow me to see my children and grandchildren was a kidney transplant.
The numbers for my getting a kidney were very grim. More than 114,000 Americans are on the organ transplant waiting list for a kidney alone and 33 of us dying every single day for lack of one. I lost many friends who sat next to me in dialysis chairs.
If you pray, please pray with me now:
Pray that our election is not stolen by dark forces against God.
Pray that the evil and unrelenting hatred of President Trump be cast aside for love, honor and respect.
Pray that America doesn't have a Biden presidency.
Pray that our magnificent Constitution is not derided, diminished, besmirched, changed, redrawn or otherwise disrespected and that it remains the world's paramount Democratic document.
Pray that abortion does not continue in our country as some kind of Satanic sacrament.
Pray that hateful persecution of any faith, such as The Little Sisters of the Poor, be stopped and that those responsible feel God's justice.
Pray that our sons and daughters, our children and parents in the U.S. military, law enforcement, firefighter and first-responder communities be overwhelmed with the respect and honor they deserve so richly.
Pray that all people and all races in our country realize that we're all Americans and that while not perfect, America is not a racist place and contrary to the shadowy armies' attempts to convince us otherwise, this country is a shining beacon for Liberty, Freedom & Justice for the entire world.
Pray that this country can devise a fair and equitable system for new immigrants seeking freedom by willing to work hard; adopt our ways and values; and love America … can immigrate here peacefully and without undue difficulty.
Pray that our street and neighborhoods remain clear of criminals, rioters, arsonists and those who have done so much harm to businesses, large and small; to innocent citizens; and to our society at large.
Pray that our First and Second Amendment rights be absolutely sacrosanct and free from the sinful bedraggling some are trying to inflict on it.
Pray that our children be protected like our own lives depend on it and allowed to attend school regularly and that school choice becomes the new friend to parents all over America.
Pray that our politicians, unelected officials and government workers always do the right thing by all Americans and that any corruption or malfeasance be rooted out and punished harshly.
Pray that this country and our president be consistently given the same respect and honor all countries and leaders deserve around the globe.
Pray that those who died, are sick, alone, homeless or in prison receive the help they need; guide, support and protect their souls.
Oh yes, how did prayer work for me and my kidney failure?
On December 25, 2019, as I was coming out of Church, my phone rang. It was the University Medical Center calling. "Mr. Robinson," I'll never forget the angelic woman's voice saying on the other end, "I'm calling you on Christmas Day because we'd like to offer you a kidney."
You might say I believe in the power of prayer.
"They say there is six degrees of separation between you and another person. However, when people are praying for you, there are only two degrees." –Shannon L. Alder
