House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thinks the American people are too dumb to understand impeachment.

According to the Daily Beast, Pelosi expressed her condescending opinion about the intelligence of U.S. voters during a closed-door meeting with other House Democrats, whom she is frantically trying to dissuade from impeachment proceedings.

In an apparent effort to dampen the enthusiasm of members who represent heavily-liberal districts in which support for impeachment is uniquely strong, she warned them that their constituents don’t really comprehend what they’re demanding. While that’s undoubtedly true of the far-left Democrat base, Pelosi contended that the rest of the country is equally clueless.

“The Speaker, according to two sources with knowledge of the meeting, expressed concerns that the public still doesn’t understand how the process of impeachment would play out,” the publication wrote. “She noted that in her time over the recess in California well educated voters didn’t seem to understand that impeachment proceedings would not necessarily result in Trump’s immediate ouster from office.”

Pelosi made a similar assertion in public during a recent press conference, arguing that “most people” think that “if you get impeached, you're gone, and that is completely not true.”

The House Speaker’s comments are a desperate bid to stave off trigger-happy Democrats who have been champing at the bit to begin impeachment proceedings that Pelosi knows would have devastating electoral repercussions for her party — according to a recent poll, only 35 percent of Americans want congressional Democrats to impeach President Trump.

Impeachment is so broadly unpopular because Americans understand exactly what the Democrat Party is really trying to accomplish: undermining Donald Trump’s presidency ahead of the 2020 election by using impeachment proceedings as an excuse to “investigate” the plethora of unfounded allegations they’ve hurled at the president since the collapse of their carefully orchestrated Russia collusion hoax.

That’s what made Pelosi’s recent remark about wanting to see Trump “in prison” was so laughable.

The voters know perfectly well that President Trump has not committed a crime, and that he was cleared by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The increasingly outrageous efforts by congressional Democrats to come up with alternative accusations has only reinforced the impression that they’ve been lying all along.

Are voters too stupid to grasp this concept? Or are the extremist Democrats who dominate Pelosi’s caucus simply too arrogant to believe that the American people can see through their transparent partisanship and obstructionism? The answer is obvious, and Pelosi is trying every strategy she can think of to make her colleagues realize their folly before it’s too late.

According to multiple reports, the House Speaker and her establishment allies have taken a valuable lesson from the GOP’s failure to convict President Bill Clinton through impeachment, fearing that Democrats will experience a similar electoral backlash to the one Republicans suffered in 1998, or worse, if they start impeachment proceedings without bipartisan support.

“Pelosi remains firm that trying to remove Trump from office without any GOP backing is pointless and could backfire on Democrats,” Politico reported last month. “They’re mindful of what happened to former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) when he impeached President Bill Clinton in 1998 — Clinton was acquitted by the Senate, Republicans lost seats in the midterm election, and Gingrich lost his job.”

Ironically, while Pelosi has refused to pull the trigger on impeachment because she doesn’t want to make a political miscalculation, she may have made an even bigger blunder by denigrating the voters whose support she and the rest of her party need.

Before telling her fellow smug elitists that the stupidity of the public is the only reason their impeachment fetish is so risky, Pelosi probably should have considered an even more recent political lesson. As Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton both learned during their failed presidential candidacies, voters aren’t especially fond of politicians who call them names — and calling them stupid is arguably far more offensive than suggesting that their political views are determined by their tax liability or referring to them as “deplorables.”

Unfortunately for Pelosi and her radical comrades in Congress, voters actually are intelligent enough to understand impeachment — and to remember her haughty slight when they head to the polls to re-elect Donald Trump in 2020.
