A full 50% of voters do not approve of the $1.7 trillion spending bill passed by Congress last month, and most say it’s a “disaster.”

The bad news for Biden comes courtesy of Rasmussen. Their latest poll finds 76% of voters are worried about the size of the national debt. That figure has mushroomed to $31 trillion. More on the debt: 53% were very concerned; 21% were not concerned at all.

More on the spending bill: 45% of voters approve the new spending bill, with 24% strongly approve. Half (50%) of voters disapprove the spending bill, and another 37% strongly disapprove.

Rasmussen asked voters if they agreed with former President Donald Trump who said the omnibus bill is a “disaster for our country:”

  • 61% agree.
  • 45% strongly agree.
  • 32% disagree.
  • 19% strongly disagree.
  • 46% of Democrats somewhat agree.
  • 80% of Republicans somewhat agree.
  • 59% of unaffiliated voters somewhat agree.

Politics played a role in the topic of the national debt: 87% of Republicans, 67% of Democrats, and 73% of unaffiliated voters are, at the minimum, somewhat worried. More Republicans, at 69%, are very concerned, while 53% of unaffiliated voters and 38% of Democrats are very concerned.

Approval of the omnibus was astounding for Democrats at 73%, while only 21% of Republicans and 40% of unaffiliated somewhat approve. Republicans, at 58%, were found to strongly disapprove, along with 40% of unaffiliated voters and 14% of Democrats.

Among racial demographics, 40% of whites, 30% of Black voters, and 31% of other minorities strongly disapprove of the omnibus spending bill. All groups seem to have great concern about the national debt, with 57% of whites, 46% of Black voters, and 44% of other minorities disapprove.

Voters under 40 approve the omnibus more than their elder counterparts.

Women more than men, at 53% and 45% respectively, disapprove the $1.7 trillion spending bill.

Those whose income is over $200,000 are most likely to approve the omnibus, while those earning between $30,000 and $50,000 were most likely to disapprove.

Private versus government employees saw a split of 44% to 54% that approve the spending bill.

As for President Biden’s most ardent supporters, 67% strongly approve the omnibus. Among voters who dislike Biden, a mere 4% strongly approve the spending bill while a whopping 75% of Biden critics strongly disapprove.

Rasmussen polled 1,000 U.S. likely voters between Jan. 2 and Jan. 4. Its margin of error is +/-3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
