Sixty-five percent of Republican voters said it's important for the GOP to show loyalty to former President Donald Trump, a new CBS News-YouGov poll showed.
The new poll found that 35% of registered Republican voters said party loyalty to Trump was "very important," while 30% said it was "somewhat important," CBS News reported.
A total of 35% of Republicans said it wasn't important for the party to show loyalty to Trump.
The poll also discovered that 81% of GOP respondents said that they want Republican candidates to have "policies and proposals" similar to Trump.
Only 19% said they wanted candidates with policies different to Trump's.
When it comes to the 2020 presidential election results, CBS News-YouGov poll found that 66% of registered Republican respondents said they prefer candidates who have similar views as the former president.
Another 34% said they want candidates who don't hold Trump's views that the 2020 election's outcome resulted from voter fraud in several battleground states.
GOP respondents were split evenly (50%) about whether they prefer candidates who conduct themselves personally or differently than Trump, the poll said.
As far as views regarding events surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, 66% of GOP respondents said they want candidates to have similar views as Trump.
The survey also asked "From what you have seen or heard from the House committee that investigated the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, do you think the Department of Justice should" charge Trump with crimes.
A total of 73% Republican respondents said Trump should not be charged, and just 13% said he should be charged. Another 14% said they haven't heard enough or weren't sure.
The CBS News-YouGov poll was conducted from Jan. 4-6 among 2,144 voters. The survey's margin of error is 2.9 percentage points.
The poll comes following November's midterms in which Republicans regained a majority in the House but overall suffered disappointing results.
