YouTube gun-rights activist Brandon Herrera will request a recount of the results in his Republican primary runoff loss to Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas.

"I don't expect the results to change, but I feel I owe it to my volunteers, voters, and supporters to leave no stone unturned," Herrera said in a statement, according to The Texas Tribune.

He had indicated last month that he would accept the results. But Herrera told the Tribune that his campaign had expected to call for a recount "from day one" because of the tight margin of about 1.4 percentage points.

Herrera told the news outlet he will request recounts on Friday for Bexar, El Paso, Medina, and Uvalde counties after losing to Gonzales by 407 votes. The race was seen as a fight between the more moderate and more conservative wings of the Republican party, according to the Tribune.

The San Antonio Express-News noted that Gonzales was censured by the Texas GOP last year over his votes to implement new gun laws and codify same-sex marriage. In addition, he has been repeatedly derided by critics as a RINO (Republican in name only).
