On Susan Rice, Opposition Media Is Also the Praetorian Guard

Susan "YouTube video" Rice has been busy assuring Opposition Media outlets — which admittedly didn’t require much reassurance — that she had nothing to do with leaking classified spy documents that just happened to involve incoming Trump administration figures.

It may be possible that a proven, habitual, Hillary Clinton-style liar is finally telling the truth about a controversial issue that involved the Obama administration, but I have my doubts. But let's say, for the purpose of argument, that I’m in the grips of a full Pollyanna psychosis and I believe Rice.

That doesn’t make what happened any less of a scandal.

Look at it this way. What do you think the response of the Opposition Media would have been during my father’s administration if Oliver North had "unmasked" the names of Walter Mondale’s advisors who were caught up in surveillance of foreign nationals just so he could find out who they were? Or what if James Baker in the first Bush administration had done the same to the incoming Clinton administration? Or Dick Cheney or Karl Rove had done the like in the last Bush administration?

The headlines would have included the words "Watergate," "domestic spying," "political purposes," "Congressional investigation" and possibly "indictments."

If the perpetrator had been an evil Republican the combined assault by Democrats in Congress and Democrats in the Op Media would have been unrelenting and unending. And guess what? It would have been justified.

The use of classified intelligence for domestic political purposes is something the East German Stasi did. Dick Cheney’s aide Scooter Libby went to jail because he didn’t remember when he talked to a reporter during a leak investigation.

Susan Rice is responsible for the eventual release of classified information that smeared members of an incoming administration and gave enemy intelligence agencies valuable insight into our surveillance capabilities and so far she is going on her merry way.

Her actions are a perversion of the responsibility members of an administration have to handle classified information and the Op Media’s eager participation in the resulting cover-up is a perversion of journalistic ethics.

The really galling facet of this whole sequence of events is Democrats are up to their elbows in this intelligence scandal and they are suffering no consequences. While Republicans, who are entirely innocent, keep recusing themselves from investigating Democrat malfeasance.

Inspector Clouseau couldn’t possibly do a worse job of investigating this sequence of scandals and with him on the job at least we’d have the possibility of a few laughs.
