Donors who supported many Republican primary candidates are not giving to winner Donald Trump — and they have so far donated as much as $2.2 million to Hillary Clinton, according to news reports.
These donors have given about $600,000 more to the Democrat than to Trump, The New York Times reports. The newspaper analyzed Federal Election Commission data through June.
For instance, of those who contributed at least $200 to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and also gave to other candidates, 303 donated to Clinton, compared with 94 who gave to Trump.
Regarding Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 212 contributed to the Democrat, versus 90 to the Republican nominee. For New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 103 donors donated to Clinton, compared with 49 for Trump.
Records show that 74 contributors to South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham's campaign gave to Clinton versus 21 who supported Trump.
In the opposite direction, Trump scored well with primary donors to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
Here is that breakdown, according to the Times:
- To Trump: 697
- To Clinton: 65
- To Trump: 509
- To Clinton: 31
- To Trump: 349
- To Clinton: 209
