Longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler made a potentially serious promise to a comedian posing as a social media influencer during this week's Democratic National Convention that if his party retakes Congress, rich white men will "certainly" be targeted with higher taxes.
"Can we please this year — it'd be so brat — have a higher tax rate for rich white men?" the comedian, Lionel McGloin, asked the New York Democrat, who was seated on the floor of the convention.
"Well, if you have a Democratic Congress, we certainly will," Nadler told him, reported the New York Post, quoting a video that McGloin, who was credentialed as a reporter by The Free Press, posted on his YouTube channel Friday.
Nadler, the ranking party member on the House Judiciary Committee, has not commented on his response to McGloin.
Meanwhile, the comedian encountered New York Attorney General Letitia James, whom critics have accused of running for office with a promise to prosecute former President Donald Trump.
He asked her if she is worried that Trump would "weaponize the justice system if he gets in power" and if he would be "prosecuting his political enemies."
James, without a trace of irony, told him "exactly" before McGloin wrapped up the interview by kissing her on the cheek.
His videos also include interviews with former Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, movie director J.J. Abrams, and "NewsNation" anchor Chris Cuomo, who informed him that his favorite line for picking up women is "I'll pay."
