White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was hit with ethics complaints this week after saying an ESPN host's criticism of President Donald Trump is a "fireable offense."

The Democratic Coalition filed two ethics complaints against Sanders for her comments regarding Jemele Hill.

On her Twitter account Monday, Hill called Trump a white supremacist.

That prompted Sanders, when asked about the tweets during Wednesday's White House press briefing, to say this: "That's one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make and certainly is a fireable offense by ESPN."

The Democratic Coalition, according to TheWrap, followed up by filing an ethics complaint against Sanders.

"When Sarah Huckabee Sanders called for Jemele Hill to be fired by ESPN, she crossed the line and put herself in dubious legal territory," the group's chairman Jon Cooper said in a statement, TheWrap reported.

"For Sanders to publicly call for the dismissal of a Trump critic is bizarre and disturbing, to say the least. If anyone is to be fired, it should be her."

Sanders said on Friday she stands by her comments, which prompted Democratic Coalition co-founder Scott Dworkin to say on his Twitter account he filed a second ethics complaint against her.

Hill was not fired by ESPN and publicly apologized for making the network look bad, saying, "My comments on Twitter expressed my personal beliefs."
