Donald Trump Jr.'s speech Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention is causing some to think the son of the GOP's presidential nominee should consider running for office.
The speech was well received. A Fox News poll conducted during Sean Hannity's show, for example, showed 16 of the 19 people surveyed think Trump should enter politics,
The Hill reports.
According to the
New York Post, Trump Jr. was asked about his potential political future at a Wednesday morning breakfast event.
"Maybe when the kids get out of school, I would consider it," he said.
Frank Luntz conducted the aforementioned Fox News poll and told the Post Trump Jr.'s speech, which showed the human side to his father, was a hit.
"He was so good, they felt his father should take lessons from him," Luntz told the Post. "They felt he humanized his father.
"I've been doing this since 1992, I've never seen a kid do so well. Reagan's kids were not nearly as good."
New York delegate Ralph Mohr told The Hill Trump Jr. hit the right notes.
"We can use Republican representatives out of Manhattan in New York. He would be a good candidate, I believe," Mohr said.
In a blog post on his website, radio host and conservative pundit Erick Erickson called for Trump Jr. to run for office — even though he does not support his father.
"It was totally solid and smart to put him in prime time. If he were running for President, he sounds like a guy I could support," Erickson wrote. "But alas he is not. His dad is. And I cannot support that guy. Put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig.
"But the speech was really good. He knows his audience. This guy could have a future in politics."
In the wake of Monday night's speech by Melania Trump that
contained plagiarized passages, Trump Jr.'s speech also contained lines that appeared somewhere else. The person who helped the speech, however,
told Politico, "We all borrow. You read things. You make them part of you. Then you forget where you got them from. A lot of life is like that."
